What I Lost to Gain Happiness

Incorporate gratitude into your daily routine and find happiness.

For those of you who don’t know yet, I recently lost 15 pounds, and I’ve never felt better! In the past 3 months, I’ve learned so much about myself, making healthier decisions, and how to ultimately live a more fulfilling life. This week, I’m sharing my journey, what’s in store for the future, and what I lost to gain more happiness in my life.

My Journey: Fitness and Health

For the last three months, I’ve been a part of a program called The Happy Bod Squad. I learned so much about myself and received so much more support than any fitness program I’ve ever bought or participated in. Part of the reason why? It’s not really a fitness program. I mean, yeah, you complete workouts each week and begin implementing healthy eating habits, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a coaching program that helped me completely transform my lifestyle. You can check out my progress and my journey to a happier, healthier, and more positive life on @ThisBeautifulLifeBlog on Instagram.

I had two coaches dedicated to my success each week, cheering me on and supporting me. There were so many resources, customized plans, and an energetic community. This is more support and accountability than any other program out there. It was completely customized to my life, my interests, and what I wanted to accomplish. Gen’s Gym defines her programs as the “Harvard of fitness coaching,” which sums it up in a nutshell.

It was the best investment I could have ever made in myself. I journaled more frequently, started thinking more positively, ate more healthy foods, and worked out on a regular schedule. Side note: I completed EVERY single workout in this program! Apparently, this is not an easy task, as not many are able to do this with their schedules (I might have been the first person to achieve this, but my coach said she’d have to double check 😉). I thought it was great either way. All I was doing was following the program!

This journey helped me not only transform my body physically by losing 15 pounds, 33 inches, and getting into a smaller jean size, but it also helped me find mentally clarity. By losing this weight, I lost the burdens of my weight whether it was the physical aspects of being out of breath after walking up flights of stairs to the mental aspect of carrying around the heaviness it weighed on my mind. Now, I can do more, see more, and feel more. Physically, mentally, and emotionally I’ve reached a new level of Christina. The only place to go from here is up.

Looking Towards the Future

What’s even better is after graduating from the Happy Bod Squad, I decided to join the Happy Life Squad! This program is a year long, and I’m so excited to see all of the great things I accomplish next. My coach and I have already started talking about what my timeline should look like, and I have to say, I’m ready to sign up for this program for another year after I graduate. There’s so much value in these programs for me. One lesson that I’ve learned is that it’s okay to ask for help. You can’t accomplish everything in one day and you can’t always do it alone. It takes true strength and dedication to do it by yourself, but honestly, even if I was able to do it all on my own, I don’t know that I’d choose that path.

I love being able to still participate in our group and cheer on the other women in the program. I absolutely adore all of them and want to watch us all grow together. So many people are focused on competition and doing better than the next person, but this group is only set on building each other up.

How I Gained Happiness

I lost the weight, I ditched the mentality that I would be happier when I was “skinnier,” and I started removing myself from relationships that took more from me than I ever had to give. As a result, I gained a new life with a clearer purpose, a more mindful and thoughtful approach to what I say to others, and a desire to achieve more.

A few other things I’ve started doing are:

  1. Regularly journaling with my SELF Journal from the BestSelf Co. It helps me stay on task, practice gratitude twice a day, and map out my goals.
  2. More yoga and meditation to stretch my body and my mind.
  3. Incorporating self-care into my daily routine. A few of my favorite self-care routines are putting on a face mask, painting my nails, reading, writing, or doing something crafty.
  4. Taking more time to do the things I love.
  5. Writing more thank you notes. It’s one of the ways I continually practice gratitude and it’s such a small but mighty way to make someone smile.

I’ve been having so much fun on this journey. Don’t get me wrong: there are plenty of tough days. I still find myself faced with challenges when it comes to healthy eating and working out from time to time, but it’s significantly easier every day. I have more desire to follow this program and choose the healthier habits over the unhealthy ones.
