Engaged

No metaphors, no creative titles, no witty or whimsical messages—just a life update that has forever made an imprint on my heart. This past weekend, Cory asked me to marry him and I said yes. Some of the best things in life are surprises. As someone who loves to be in control, plan everything, and know all the details, being surprised isn’t something that happens too often for me. But this moment was the biggest and best surprise I’ve ever experienced.

The day had started off pretty shitty. I had a headache, was feeling extra stressed from the work week, and I dropped my brand new foundation on the floor, leaving remnants of crushed powder chunks everywhere. I had planned on getting my nails done that day, and I was running late for my appointment. I had to leave the powder flecks on the floor and told Cory I’d clean them up when I got home. I accidentally overtipped my nail tech—don’t ask—and got home feeling worse. My headache just kept getting stronger. I laid down and tried to relax while Cory got our groceries for the week. Even when I was at my worst, he was still there, ready to pitch in a little more than normal. It’s one of the many reasons why I love him.

When he came back, I was starting to feel okay. I was supposed to have lunch with one of my best friends, and I almost cancelled. But Cory said I should get out of the house. I went to lunch and knew it was a good idea once I saw my friend. We had great food, great conversation as always, and had planned to go to a park near the beach to get some steps in. I had originally said I wanted to skip the walk since I wasn’t feeling great, but she convinced me to do it when we finished lunch.

When we got there, the weather was absolutely perfect. There’s something about the beach that instantly makes me feel better. We walked along a path with the ocean waves by our side and a park in the distance with a giant pirate ship. Eventually, we stopped at a bench and sat down. As per usual, we were in high supply of things to talk about. But after 10 or 15 minutes, I all of the sudden saw Cory standing in front of me. I was so confused. My brain was trying to process why he was here because he knew I was hanging out with my friend today. Then my friend stood up and started slowly walking away and it clicked. I hugged Cory and could hear his heart pounding. He’s always so calm; I never see him like this. Was this it? Was it happening now?

Cory and I were standing there laughing at my confusion and then I saw my friend walk over to her boyfriend who was hiding behind a sand dune. They were both in on it and I had zero clue. I was completely caught off guard. Cory started talking to me and telling me how much I meant to him. I barely remember the words because my heart was so full. I just remember how I felt…it was pure joy. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes. And I’m still in shock. It just feels so surreal. I’ve thought about this moment since I was a little girl and it was everything I wanted and more. I’m so excited to start this next chapter of our lives together. Let the planning begin. ✨💍💕
